Western are still after players to fill its under 14s, 15s and 17s side ahead of the new season.

Western under 17s coach Sarah Colman said Western numbers "aren't looking too bad", but could always do with more.

"Obviously we'd like some more and obviously we're still scouting and looking for more players," she said.

"Hopefully a few more come along to training this week and I'm still speaking to some of these girls, hoping they'll come back."

Western were in action at the Proctor Park Challenge in Bathurst on Saturday and Sunday and had to call upon several fill-in players to make up numbers.

The under 17s side were Western's most successful team, going down to St George 2-0 in the quarter finals.

St George scored in quick succession early on but Western were not to be played out of the park, as the local side remained composed and were defensively sound for the remainder of the game.

"It was a bit disappointing to lose 2-0 but I think the scoreboard didn't reflect our performance, especially in the second half with our chances," Colman said.

"The [St George] coach told me that the shot we had in the second half was the first shot they've allowed in the whole tournament, so we'll take that."

The under 17s grade of the Proctor Park Challenge was eventually won by Shellharbour, who defeated Macarthur Rams 3-1 on penalties after the scores were locked at nil-all at full-time.

Under 15s bragging rights went to Marconi Stallions, who defeated Woden Weston 2-0, while Albury-Wodonga defeated St George 4-2 on penalties after it finished 1-all at full-time.

St George were too good for APIA Leichhardt in the under 12s deciding match, winning 2-0.
