A push for more live music venues in the Central West has encouraged the Beekeepers Inn to open their doors to local musicians.
The monthly event is set to commence with a performance by Smith & Jones this Sunday, from 2pm to 5pm, and Beekeepers Inn manager Queenie Green said the venue's vast outdoor environment provides a fitting backdrop for live music.
"We feel there's a huge lack of venues for local artists and as we're halfway between Bathurst and Orange, it opens the possibilities up to musicians from both communities," Ms Green said.
"The plan is to open up live performance opportunities for all types of musicians, from seasoned songwriters to up and coming artists."
Ms Green, who used to host regular busking events as the former owner of the Mad Season Cafe, said the venue's bustling weekend trade served as a catalyst to trial live music events.
"The Beekeepers Inn is well known for its functions and as a result, we often attract a significant number of patrons on weekends," she said.
"We also brew our own beer here at 1859 Brewing and the meals are prepared using local produce, so we want to pair it all together and get people to experience local music again."'
Ms Green hopes the regular gigs will open up accessible entertainment opportunities for residents in Bathurst, Orange and surrounding areas.
"We understand that evening gigs aren't for everyone, so we want to provide a relaxing afternoon of music for families and couples to enjoy," she said.
"If the gigs prove successful, we might look into running a courtesy bus service for Bathurst and Orange residents."
The gigs will take place in the venue's beer garden, and will run on the last Sunday of each month in the afternoon.
"We want to help promote the importance of live music in the Central West as well as introduce more people to our laid back environment," she said.
