He fulfilled that promise last summer, and he's set to again this weekend.
Preparations are complete for the fourth Veterans Cricket NSW over 50s State Cricket Championship, set to run from Saturday through to Monday.
Over 290 of the best veterans from around the state will travel to Orange to compete in the championship, which this summer will boast three divisions.
Games will be played at Wade Park, as well as at Bathurst and Molong turf wickets, while the likes of David Hobbs and Stuart Crisp will be in action, the latter set to pad up following selection in the Australian side to play in Brisbane against the UK touring side.
Orange City Mayor Reg Kidd said it is great to see players with links to the Orange District Cricket Association involved in this weekend's tournament.
"There is nothing better than playing on home soil," Cr Kidd said.
"These players have represented the state and even Australia in the past and now they get to do it all again in front of their family and friends."
Orange City Council's Sport and Recreation Policy Committee Chair Jason Hamling said it is great to see the city's strong relationship with Cricket NSW upheld.
"Veterans Cricket NSW and Veterans Cricket Australia have had over 800 players come to Orange to play and spectate a number of matches over the last three years," he added.
"It is a credit to Orange and its facilities to see championships such as these held in our city."
