The Bureau of Meteorology's forecast for the weekend predicts the region is about a 70 per cent chance of storms in the afternoon and into the evening.
The bureau is predicting as much as 4 millimetres to fall in the storms.
Large parts of the Central Tablelands are included in the warning, with the severe thunderstorm area stretching from Katoomba through to Dubbo in the north, and then south to the boarder as well.
Orange is forecast to reach a top of 27 degrees on Saturday, with a top of 24 predicted on Sunday with a chance of up to 8mm of rain.
So far in February, Orange has received 22.8mm of rain.
