The Bureau of Meteorology issued a storm warning for much of the state on Monday morning, with Orange on the border of a likely severe thunderstorm event.

The alert says thunderstorms could become severe producing heavy rainfalls, damaging winds and possible hail, and will be more severe in northern and central parts of the state.

The BoM is predicting the region is an 80 per cent chance of rain, with between 5 millimetres to 10 millimetres to fall.

Orange received healthy falls over the weekend, with 8.8mm and 5.4mm recorded at the Orange airport on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Other areas of city recorded more, with as much as 21mm recorded in west Orange over the weekend.

While parts of the Blue Mountains were battered, with a section of the rail network between Leura and Katoomba now closed due to a landslip that's damaged track. That region on the mountains received nearly 280mm of rain over the weekend.
