Cricketers across the city had their games interrupted by the rain on Saturday, but few would have been worried as the region enjoyed welcome follow-up falls following the 132 millimetres Orange recorded in January.

The Bureau of Meteorology's main weather station at the Orange airport recorded 8.8mm of rain up to 9am on Sunday morning, with another 2mm falling in the lead-up to lunchtime on Sunday.

More rain is on the way, too, with heavy falls expected to arrive in the late afternoon across Orange, with up to 40mm forecast.

Further rain - up to 10mm on Monday and another 20mm of Tuesday - is on the radar as well, with smaller falls scattered across the rest of the week.

The predictions come on the back of the mammoth East Coast Low smashing the New South Wales shoreline, with large parts of the state forced into flood watch, some parts just a month after being ravaged by bushfire.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe weather warnings including heavy rainfall, damaging winds for the Central Tablelands, too, with Katoomba and Lithgow included in areas where flood water has the potential to be life threatening.

Police and emergency services are urging the community not to take risks in the current wet weather conditions being experienced across much of NSW.

Deputy State Emergency Operations Controller, Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb, said emergency services are continuing to assist people impacted by recent and current weather.

"During severe weather events, NSW Police are poised to assist the State Emergency Service, and we are currently working with them to minimise the impact of the storms on the community," Assistant Commissioner Webb said.
