The already-busy morning peak along Anson Street was a little busier, however northern region community relations manager David Crough said the work was necessary as tree contact with powerlines posed serious hazards to people and wildlife with potential to cause fire, damage to property and power outages.
"Essential Energy apologises to anyone inconvenienced by traffic control measures associated with its vegetation management works and will be discussing this with its vegetation contractors to minimise any disruptions to the community as a result of these works in the future," he said.
It followed a busy few days for the distributor as it repaired damage causing outages to more than 2000 homes and businesses on Sunday and Monday.
"The resulting damage from the tree impacting the electricity network was significant and while power has been restored to all customers, further repair work will be required to restore the electricity network back to its normal configuration," Mr Crough said.
The 123 customers left without power on Monday were restored by 3.45pm on Monday, however, malicious damage caused another outage at 3.22pm.
Mr Crough said power was restored to 2113 homes and businesses that evening, with the remaining 60 on Tuesday morning, with further testing occurring on Wednesday.
He urged anyone with information on the damage should contact the Police Assistance Line on 13 14 44.
