More than 2000 homes and businesses lost power after Sunday's storm, when networks in west Orange and Clifton Grove were struck by lightning and switched themselves off.

NSW Fire and Rescue were called to a grass fire within the rail corridor on Cecil Road at 3.30pm on Monday afternoon, which cut power to more than 2000 homes.

Two trucks from the Orange brigade were called to extinguish the blaze, which burnt through about 50-square-feet of grassland.

The fire was believed to have started as a result of damage to two electricity network connections which may have damaged an underground cable.

Around 2000 homes and businesses had their power restored at around 7pm, while the final 60 were without power until Tuesday morning.

Essential Energy community relations David Crough said some customers affected by the unplanned power outage experienced another outage on Tuesday as crews worked to make permanent repairs.

More than 100 customers on the southern end of Hill Street and the surrounding area were affected, while crews undertook testing on an underground cable and other electricity network equipment.

Mr Crough said crews hoped to be able to restore power by 5pm.

"Malicious damage to the electricity network like this causes huge inconvenience to the community and also has the potential to endanger life and property," he said.

"Essential Energy thanks customers for their understanding."

In a separate incident, a truck struck a power pole on Peisley Street just before 7pm on Monday - which bought down telephone wires.

There was no power outages as a result, however, Essential Energy crews who attended found a fallen Telstra cable.

The truck driver is believed to have avoided injury. Paramedics were not required to attend the scene.
