Ploughmans Wetlands Care Group and Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange, in collaborating with Orange City Council will host the walk on Sunday.
Twitcher, Rosemary Stapleton will lead a bird watching walk around the wetlands from 8am, followed by a walk and talk from council's Bill Josh at 10am.
Attendees will have the chance to learn how the wetlands contribute to biodiversity and their role in storm-water harvesting.
ECCO President Neil Jones said the wetlands play a major role in providing potable water to residents.
"Even after moderate rainfall water can be transported to Suma Park and treated," he said.
Mr Jones said the Ploughman's wetlands are also a great ecosystem of plants, birds and wildlife, as well as being a great recreation facility for families.
Anyone wishing to attend is advised to meet at the picnic shelter along Ploughmans Lane.
There will also be a barbecue lunch provided afterwards.
It has been Australia's lost summer. Drought, hail, floods and, worst of all, bushfires have ravaged communities all over the nation. But the selfless actions of friends, family, neighbours, strangers, local groups and volunteer organisations have inspired us and strengthened the bonds of community.
