Australian Medical Association SA president Chris Moy said if managed correctly and with widespread support and cooperation, the virus should have minimal impact on SA doctors, patients and the wider community.

Dr Moy said Australia had also done well in its response so far.

'However, we must all work together and take responsibility for staying in front of this emerging threat," he said.

"Once the cat is out of the bag, the opportunity to manage the situation and our response could be lost."

Dr Moy's comments came as SA Health confirmed three more people in SA had been tested for coronavirus, although the chances of them having the disease were considered low.

The latest tests brought the number of people in SA waiting for results to six.

One more person was tested but had since been cleared.

SA Health said all the people under investigation were being managed using standard infection control protocols.

Dr Moy said, as a GP, he understood that many patients would be concerned, especially if they began to develop symptoms which could be consistent with the virus.

But he said the key message was to those in the high-risk group.

"These are people who have travelled from China, in particular from Wuhan City or Hubei Province, or have been in contact with someone who has, especially if they have developed a fever and respiratory symptoms in the 14 days since travelling there," Dr Moy said.

"'These patients should phone their GP, or a clinic or hospital emergency department, for advice before attending in person."
