The plan involves providing $500,000 to councils of fewer than 1000 people and $1 million to larger councils.

Councils including Bathurst, Dubbo, Cowra, Cabonne, Blayney and Oberon will benefit from the funding but Orange missed out.

The funding is expected to support tourism projects and new infrastructure.

As well, $10 million has been added to a program to ensure families affected by drought are supported to continue accessing education in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia.

1PM TUESDAY:

PRIME Minister Scott Morrison is now meeting with the National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency to discuss the next moves for natural disaster assistance.

Mr Morrison took the chair of the meeting inside Orange City Council Chambers before discussions were closed to the press, saying it saw essential people not only received the support they needed, but the hope they needed.

"We've seen that in North Queensland this is about taking lessons from that process and ensuring they're applied more broadly ... to the drought," he said.

Mr Morrison will attend a community lunch at Orange Civic Theatre foyer where protesters from the Central West Environment Council, Central West Extinction Rebellion and Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange have gathered outside to lobby for more action on climate change.

9AM TUESDAY:

PRIME Minister Scott Morrison will visit the region for the second time in two months, this time visiting Orange to talk about the drought.

The Central Western Daily understands Mr Morrison will take part in a Drought and Flood Advisory Board meeting and a community lunch before heading to Blayney to inspect a drought project.

Mr Morrison last visited the region in late December to meet Rural Fire Service firefighters in Mudgee.
