Less than 24 hours later he'll have a slight change of pace, be strolling onto the SCG as part of the Plan B Regional Bash in the shadow of the fabled Ladies' stand instead of Orange's most iconic grandstand.

The Cavaliers tweaker will be part of the Central West Wranglers' quest to claim the regional bash title, and while it's a title he's played in once before for Wagga Sloggers before moving to Orange, it's a title he wants to get his hands on.

Orana defeated the Sloggers in 2018, and Black missed the cut for the Wranglers in 2019 having only just moved to Orange, but he said the experience was one he wouldn't forget.

"Walking down the stairs was a bit surreal, thinking 'I'm actually going to go field' and been there for years to watch it but never thought I'd play on the SCG field and bat and all that sort of stuff," Black said.

"It was good experience sitting where a lot of Australian and top-level cricketers sit week-in, week-out.

"To come from the bush to there is an experience, an eye opener. It was good fun."

The one aspect which wasn't enjoyable was being hit into the stands at the SCG, which while is a nifty story to pull out at parties isn't one Black wants to replicate.

"That wasn't too flash," he said laughing.

If captain Jameel Qureshi follows the tact of previous games, Black will likely close out games, but the off-spinner suspects there'll be a change come Australia Day.

"Previous games we've done I've been bowling last few overs but I think we've got another plan for Sydney, I could be one of the frontline bowlers," he said.

"We'll see what the wicket's like, we've got different plans for different batters we know of."

He rates the squad, in particular the skipper, but won't feel the pressure of being a front-line bowler.

"It's good, Jameel's a good captain, I like him, he's an out-of-the-square thinking captain and nothing fazes him, he's happy to try new things."

"Sometime you think you're expected to bowl dot balls and go for not many but I think of it as another game and I just do my job, which at the moment has been bowling.

"I get me four overs in quick, I try and get through them without being held up, I've done my job and hopefully the others boys get it done."

As much as he'd love a bat on the SCG, if Black comes to the crease it's likely something's done drastically wrong, but with a planned floating order, the tweaker could almost follow in the footsteps of Mitchell Starc from the Australians' latest series in India and pinch-hit up the order - albeit hopefully with more success.

Does he reckon they can bring home the bacon? What he's been hunting for three years?

"Absolutely."

The Wranglers' first game is at 2pm, with the final - should they make it - starting at 6.30pm.
