Additional equipment has been mobilised to intensify the search for the miner, who has not been seen at Tasmania's Henty Gold Mine since 4am yesterday.
Police say they have "grave fears" for the worker after search teams using thermal imaging failed to detect signs of life.
Tasmania Police Inspector Shane Le Fevre said they are now working with specialised engineers at Henty Gold Mine.
"We are formulating another plan as to how we can get down to the particular area safely," he said.
Where the mine is located ...
PYBAR Mining Services have been in contact with the family of the worker, whose name is yet to be released, and have provided them with updates on the progress of the rescue effort.
PYBAR CEO Brendan Rouse said the company remains deeply concerned and are doing everything possible to locate the missing worker.
"We are also concerned about the management, staff and emergency personnel at the mine who have been affected by this incident and are providing them with the necessary support and counselling," he said.
Operations at the Henty Gold Mine have been suspended while the rescue effort is in progress.
