1) Keep enough water in the duck pond in Cook Park for the inhabitants to remain there. Surely we can afford to keep it topped up with our effluent if potable water is in short supply, as plenty of effluent is going to Cadia Mine on a daily basis and to my knowledge they are getting it for free. Please use some of this effluent to water trees such as the Silver Birches in Woodward Street that appear to be dying or possibly dead.
2) For all our sakes, build the long-awaited public toilet in Robertson Park, ASAP - after all how long does it take?
3) I understand a plan is in progress to secure our water supply into the future, this is great news, but when will it happen?
4) Control our population growth to a sustainable level, without serious water restrictions and to a level that will enable us to maintain our existing gardens.
5) What a mistake it was to build the stupid lawn covered roof over the Museum/Tourist Centre complex as we now are informed that it has to be kept moist or otherwise it will leak, thank you to those responsible.
6) A few years ago considerable research was carried out into building a multi-storied car park in the Woolworths car park and I am led to ask why has this not been built? We are short of parking spaces in the CBD and to have people shopping they have to park, for example, in Moulder Street and to then expect them to carry their purchases to there is not acceptable, come on Council let us bring this plan to reality just as soon as we have enough water to build this much-needed asset. It has been shown that ratepayers of Orange do not want parks taken over for car parking. This asset will benefit retailing and other commercial activities in the CBD,
7) Return to the previous system, that was obviously the best, for the elected councillors to elect their own leader (mayor) and then they can make change if necessary, for example our politicians can get rid of their leader but our councillors cannot as we are stuck with the leader until the next election, not really democratic.
8) Ensure Environmental flows are maintained down our creeks such as Blackmans Swamp etc by sending down effluent if necessary
9) Redevelop the old Esso Park, to say, Welcome Park and install tourist information and map and toilets (that were there in the past). The destruction of houses etc here has so far been a total waste of our money. Include Mount Canobolas, the Lake, Ophir etc with clear directions to the visitors centre.
10) Consider having fireworks in winter, for obvious reasons.
I understand council has a plan to secure our water supply for the future, so good luck with that and I hope it comes to fruition sooner than later, to keep up with growth.
