Miss Kenna has received the OAM for service to community health.

She said she was surprised by the award.

"I was really humbled by it. I was shocked and surprised," she said.

Miss Kenna has worked in health services in Orange for 17 years and is now the Health Service Manager with the Molong Health Service.

"There was an opportunity to lead the redevelopment of the Molong Health Service three-and-a-half years ago and I stayed," she said.

"I'm really privileged to be able to work in health for the Western NSW Local Health District," she said.

She said her community health service took up several hours a week with meetings in Sydney and Orange.

"[They include] the National Heart Foundation for almost 10 years, deputy chair of the National Aboriginal Health Advisory Committee and a group of other committees and boards I have been on recently and are still on," she said.

"I was the [Orange] NAIDOC female person of the year in 2007 and 2014."

Her other voluntary work includes being a member of the Aboriginal Advisory Group, National Cancer Institute and Research since 2015 and the Cardiovascular Health Advisory Committee.

"I'm passionate about improving health care and access to health care for the community," she said.

"I really love improving the health experience for patients and their families and carers."

Miss Kenna was also a founding community board member for planning and development of the Orange Aboriginal Medical Service in 2005 and has had other roles there.

She is a member of the OAMS Clinical Governance Patient Safety/Quality Governance Group.

Miss Kenna said she had been a registered nurse for more than 30 years and has specialised in chronic and aged care and in Aboriginal health.

She said she grew up in Coonabarabran and is married to Anthony King with a daughter, Emily.

Miss Kenna was 2009 employee of the year in the Orange Community Awards.
