Now is the time to start writing a poem
- Len Banks
Competition organiser Len Banks from the Rotary Club of Orange said the region was proud to be the birthplace of Banjo Paterson and the festival was a reflection of that.
"Now is the time to start writing a poem. It can be on any topic as long as it is good family entertainment," he said.
Mr Banks said the festival, held in February each year, was a celebration of Australian poetry, the region's history and heritage as well as the wonderful talents of current poets.
"That is why the Festival was the 2019 winner of the Heritage and Culture Category of the NSW Tidy Towns Awards for towns over 20,000 people," he said.
Mr banks said it would be great to have a large representation of local poets in the competition.
"This year for the first time there will be a school principals' challenge, in which local principals will recite their own poems written specially for the event."
The festival will run from February 16-23.
Entry forms can be found at www.rotarycluboforange.org.au along with information about the festival.
