The Australian Good Food Guide has given one hat to both Charred and previous recipient Lolli Redini in its 2020 awards list announced this month.
The AGFG is a different award to the Sydney Morning Herald's Good Food Guide awards which also hands out hats to restaurants for excellence.
Charred restaurant manager and sommelier David Collins said it was the restaurant's first hat since opening just over three years ago.
"It's great recognition especially for the kitchen staff to put the food out they way they do," he said.
"It's pretty special."
He said the hat awards for Charred and Lolli Redini also recognised the quality of restaurants in Orange.
AGFG operational manager and resident chef Shawn Sheather said Charred received 13 points out of 20 to win its first hat, while Lolli Redini was awarded 12 points to retain its one-hat status.
He said no restaurant had received the maximum 20 points since the awards started.
Mr Sheather said the awards had been running for about 40 years.
He said each restaurant was assessed by an independent inspector working on a range of criteria.
They included the quality of ingredients used in the food, balancing taste in the dishes sold, presentation of the food, the technique used to create interesting food, value for money and consistency of quality.
This year the AGFG also announced Readers' Choice awards based on a public voting system compiled throughout 2019.
There were 14 categories for businesses awarded in Central West NSW.
The Orange Regional Cooking School was voted the best in the providores section while the Overlander Indian restaurant in Lords Place was voted the best Indian restaurant.
The nearby Royal Hotel won the best bistro category while the Molong Motor Inn was voted the best accommodation in the region.
Bathurst's Cobblestone Lane won the modern Australian category, Bake Table & Tea was voted best cafe and The O'Connell Avenue Cafe & Store was voted best for coffee.
Businesses in Cowra, Gilgandra, Dubbo and Mudgee won the other categories.
