Orange City Council community engagement officer Bill Josh said they concentrated on an area west of the barbecues on the northern side of the lake.
"We had about 30 people turn up which was really great," he said.
Mr Josh said they worked on woody weed control of the area for about three hours.
"There's so many weeds," he said.
However he said the strong turnout of volunteers had enabled them to remove plenty of weeds.
Mr Josh said several young people were among the volunteers which was handy to get down low to clear the bush.
He said they had now booked in the third Sunday of the month until June this year for lake care work.
Mr Josh said that would give people plenty of notice to be able to attend.
He said having the volunteer component was valuable in assisting Orange City Council in getting government grants for projects.
