That's the philosophy behind the Bathurst Bushrangers' selection of Matt Archer and Tim Hunter as co-coaches for the 2020 Central West AFL season.
Archer and Hunter guided the Bushrangers Rebels to victory in the 2019 season and are back on board to attempt the same feat this year.
They'll be coaching the Bushrangers' first-grade team in 2020, with the two teams over the past few years, which had players drafted between each side, becoming proper first grade and reserve grade outfits under the AFL Central Wests' tiered competition, which is returning this year.
The pair have been proven leaders both on and off the field for the Bushies over many years and are determined to improve their mentoring skills even more after the premiership season.
Archer and Hunter were in good spirits before the club's second pre-season training session on Wednesday and are keen to shake off the rust over the coming months of training.
"The new year's come around very quickly. We've all had a decent break and everyone's feeling refreshed. We're excited to see what the season holds," Hunter said.
"I think the good thing about Tim and I is that we're always able to adapt to new ideas depending on what the season throws at us. That's the great thing about having this partnership."
The coaching duo had the Rebels on a roll late last season.
Rebels won their last seven matches of the year to come away with the title.
It will be a while yet before the Bushrangers dial up the intensity on their pre-season.
Hunter said it's great to see so many players eager to get onto the field during summer.
"January has been pretty relaxed. We just want to get people involved after the break and getting around each other," he said.
"We just want people having a bit of fun with a kick and seeing who's around."
It's only early days in the season but Bushrangers have already welcomed on board several new faces.
Archer said it's great to see new players willing to get involved in the early stages of the pre-season.
"You lose a couple each year, as you normally do, but we've also picked up a couple of new guys," he said.
"There's a couple of fresh guys who have never played the game before and there's also some very good footballers as well. It's a great mix and it's still only early days at the moment.
"I can't wait to see if we can get more people coming down."
Bushrangers are keen to welcome players of all abilities to take part in Wednesday's pre-season sessions from 6pm at George Park.
Bushrangers are set to name their reserve grade and women's coaches over the coming weeks.
