headspace Orange Centre Manager Kelly Dent said natural disasters can be unpredictable and shatter our feelings of safety.
"With so many images of devastation and seeing the smoke blanket our town, it's a completely normal reaction to feel fearful, anxious or overwhelmed," she said.

Ms Dent said there are many factors that can impact how different people respond, but there's a few tactics to beat the blues.
"If you're feeling particularly anxious and worried we do suggest limiting social media use and prioritise spending time with family and friends," she said.
"A really good way to handle tough times is to get back into a routine, talk about what's happening and make time for the things you enjoy."
Ms Dent said headspace regularly hosts workshops for young people to teach coping mechanisms such as mindfulness and anger management.
Support is also available through eheadspace.org.au.
"You don't have to go through it alone," she said.

TIPS FOR MAINTAINING A HAPPY HEAD SPACE:
- Get into life - keep doing the things you love to do and the things that are important to you. It can help keep the fun in your life, give you a sense of accomplishment and purpose, boost your confidence and help to connect with others.
- Connect - spending time with family and friends (including pets) and people in your community can help strengthen your mental health and well being.
- Stay active - make time to do something active. Staying active can help you to sleep better, manage stress and boost your mood.
- Get enough sleep - sleeping well is great for your brain and body, try to make sure you're getting a good amount of sleep.
- Eat well - there's a lot of research to show how eating well can improve your mood, energy levels and general health and well being.
- Cut back on alcohol and other drugs - cutting down on the amount of alcohol and other drugs that you take, or avoiding alcohol and other drugs altogether, will help you sleep better, feel better, and keep a healthy head space.
