The city has also retained its top spot for having the most expensive rents in the Central West, the latest Domain Rental Report for December 2019 shows

The median weekly asking rent for a house in Orange is now $380, which is higher than in Bathurst ($360), Goulburn ($358), Dubbo ($350), Hilltops ($270) and Cowra ($268).

For median unit rental costs, Orange and Goulburn share the top spot for the most expensive rents at $280 a week.

Renting a unit in Dubbo is a little cheaper with a median cost of $260 a week and this is followed by Bathurst ($250), Hilltops ($220) and Cowra ($175).

When comparing median costs in Orange now to five years ago, long-term renters would be feeling the pinch.

The cost to rent a home in the city has soared by 16.9 per cent during that time period - from $325 a week to $380.

While the increase for units is even larger at 21.7 per cent, with costs going up from $230 a week to $280.

When analysing the data, all long-term renters in these Central West locations have experienced a significant increase in how much they need to pay their real estate agent each week.

Median weekly rents for a home in Cowra increased 11.5 per cent ($240 to $268), in Bathurst they jumped by 9.1 per cent ($330 to $360) and they went up by 8.3 per cent in Goulburn ($330 to $358).

While in Dubbo they jumped by 6.1 per cent ($330 to $350) and the cost for house renters in Hilltops increased by 3.8 per cent ($260 to $270).
