Adam Stuart Dean, of Toogong Street Cudal, registered a low-range blood alcohol reading of 0.064 when he stopped for random breath testing on Bathurst Road just before 9.30pm on November 30.
Dean told police he had consumed three beers and a bourbon and cola.
He represented himself in Orange Local Court, saying he was a plumber and needed his licence.
He said when he lost his licence on a previous occasion he had an apprentice to drive him, but the option was not open to him this time.
But magistrate David Day said it was his second road offence, meaning a mandatory six-month disqualification.
Mr Day asked Dean whether he had completed the traffic offenders intervention program and Dean replied he had on a previous occasion.
"It doesn't seem to have worked, does it?" Mr Day said.
