Residents would be given more flexibility on when they can water their gardens under a plan to be considered by Orange City Council at an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday night.
It proposes extending the time window for when people could water their gardens from 6pm-7pm on Sundays to 6pm-8pm on Sundays with the possible extension of also having a morning watering period from 6am-8am on Sundays.
However residents would still be limited to the current Level 5 restriction which allows them one of hour of watering through dripper systems or up to 30 minutes with a hand-held hose.
The meeting is being held after councillors Kevin Duffy, Glenn Taylor, Sam Romano and Scott Munro announced they wish to move several notices of motion all relating to water.
The councillors said they were concerned some residents could not water between 6pm and 7pm on Sundays because of family commitments and were seeking extra time to do the allowed watering.
In a report for the meeting council's technical services director Ian Greenham said he agreed the time limit would restrict some people.
"I am open to supporting a trial of a more flexible approach to time-of-day watering," he said.
The council meeting will also be told the duck ponds at Cook Park will be filled with bore water and a call to open the Orange Aquatic Centre for free over the Australia Day long weekend would cost more than $15,000.
A staff comment by community and cultural services director Scott Maunder said staff would empty and clean the duck pond next week to remove the build-up of organic waste.
"On conclusion of [the] works the pond will be refilled and maintained with water sourced from bores," he said.
A staff comment said the pool's average daily admission revenue from December 30-January 5 was $5075.
"Free entry for the Australia Day Weekend will have a negative impact of approximately $5075 per day, totalling $15,225," it said.
