Competition leaders Cavaliers and Orange City look as strong as ever while the tough times have continued for City Colts and Kinross who are still doing what they can to pick themselves up from the bottom of the ladder

There's been some cracking contests to get the season back underway. Rugby Union have almost picked up a victory in a single day, CYMS are in the box seat against St Pat's Old Boys and Redbacks looked super slick in their opening day of play against Centrals.

Here's our five biggest talking points from the opening day of the competition's sixth round.

FEAR the beard.

Angus Le Lievre was the top order destroyer for CYMS in their match against St Pat's Old Boys on Saturday, making sure his brother and skipper Hugh doesn't hog all the headlines this season.

Hugh had scored a century for the Orange side in their last round before Christmas and had a four wicket haul earlier in the season but now it's the Angus show after his figures of 5-38 against the Saints.

The younger Le Lievre isn't available for every single BOIDC fixture this season, so CYMS are thankful for every game the big bearded talent can take part in.

He put a stop to promising starts from three top order St Pat's players and returned later in the innings to claim two quick fire wickets.

Le Lievre hadn't played for three rounds so it's obvious he's been storing up energy and decided St Pat's was the perfect target to unleash it upon.

He didn't take a wicket in his first few games of BOIDC this season but with seven wickets in the space of two games you can count on The Le Lievre Show kicking into top gear in 2020.

JOHAN Ruzgas was one of the stars for the CSU outfit which won last year's second-tier Central West Rugby Union competition the New Holland Cup.

His work in the second row made him a huge asset for the students while it also earned him a Central West Blue Bulls jumper and selection in the New South Wales Country Cockatoos squad.

So it's pretty fair to say that Ruzgas knows what he is doing on a rugby field.

Well, on Saturday Ruzgas showed that when it comes to cricket he knows what he is doing as well. He bowled 29 overs for Rugby Union in the first day of its clash with Kinross - that's 66 deliveries more than any of his team-mates.

But it wasn't just that workload that was impressive - he had an impact with the ball too. Ruzgas claimed 3-53, his first victim coming with just his sixth delivery of the game.

And while we know Kinross doesn't have the strongest of batting line-ups, it was also impressive that Ruzgas bowled seven maidens, only conceded three boundaries and his count of dots balls was something no-one (okay well a cricket nuffie like Brad Broes may be the exception) would care to count.

BEFORE Christmas Kaleb Cook was having an ordinary run opening the batting for Cavaliers - well more than ordinary actually.

From four knocks he'd only cracked double figures once and that was a 21 against a City Colts side which has certainly not lived up to its pre-season promise.

But on Saturday Cook dished it out in a knock much better than that pun to finish unbeaten on 151 against Centennials Bulls.

Bulls were probably feeling pretty good after dismissing the dangerous Matt Corben - a man averaging 95 - for just 19. But Cook showed that the side's skipper isn't Cavaliers' only batting weapon.

He carried his bat as he spent almost five hours at the crease and more than half his runs - 92 of them - came in boundaries.

ENGLISHMAN Harrison Craig came to Bathurst City for this season hoping to showcase his talents with his left arm spin.

He certainly has done that, taking 15 wickets and playing a huge role in Bathurst's Rod Hartas Trophy win earlier this season.

Turns out he's more than a handy batsman as well.

On Saturday he top scored for the Redbacks against Centrals with 64 runs, building upon his unbeaten 47 he found against CYMS before the Christmas break.

Many top order Redbacks players made starts in their innings but it was the curse of the fearsome forties in the Bathurst City camp, as three players came up just short of reaching a half century.

Craig wasn't going to be one of them.

He hit 10 fours and a six to progress past the 50 barrier which had proved too tough for his teammates to overcome, helping his team reach a total of 267.

Craig's clearly got no fear when it comes to batting. That six was the shot he used to bring up his 50.

IT sounds harsh to say with three and a half rounds still to go but City Colts are already looking like they're out of the finals picture after a disastrous opening day's play against Orange City.

And 'disastrous' might be selling it short.

Colts are currently 7-54 chasing 216 and will need a miracle to put an end to their winless run of 2019-20.

Who would have picked Colts as the first team to be eliminated from finals contention at the start of the season?

The team has been unable to produce matches with consistently strong bowling and batting performances, and their current game is the perfect example.

Colts gave themselves a great shot at victory with an excellent bowling and fielding performance but made it count for very little with one of the worst batting collapses of the season to date.

They are an enigma wrapped in a puzzle, and I'm not sure what the solution is for a team not exactly short on big names and talent.
