It was a knock that helped Cavaliers to an imposing total at George Park 1 in their match against Centennials Bulls and has them in a strong position to take the win.

But Cavaliers are not alone in being on top after day one.

Orange City is in a position to push for an outright win, while Orange CYMS and Rugby Union are travelling well in their respective run chases.

In the other game Centrals has a big chase ahead after Bathurst City made 267 on a tricky Morse Park 1 pitch.

PRIOR to Saturday Kaleb Cook had endured a lean season opening the batting for Cavaliers, but his first knock in 2020 certainly turned things around.

In his almost five-hour stay at the crease at George Park 1 he belted an unbeaten 151 to put Cavs in the box seat after day one of their clash with Centennials Bulls.

Cook's knock included 23 boundaries, and given most of his team-mates struggled to make their presence felt with the bat, it was crucial in helping Cavs to 7-286 before they declared.

Mitchell Black (36) did provide good support coming in at number seven - forming a 99-run partnership with Cook - while number nine Mark Maybin belted an unbeaten 21 off 22 before Cavs decided to send in the Bulls.

Tyler Horton (2-45 off 11 overs) and Kurt Toole (2-78 off 18) were the best of the Bulls' bowlers.

In the nine over Bulls faced before stumps, they lost the wicket of Mick Hutchinson (six) as he was stumped off the bowling of Black. Kyle Aubin (12 not out) and Blake Kreuzberger (yet to score) will resume at the crease on day two.

ORANGE City will be pushing for an outright win when play resumes on day two of its clash against City Colts at Wade Park given it is just three wickets away from first innings' honours.

City, who went into round six sitting second on the ladder, did most of the damage later in the afternoon after making 217 batting first.

Number four Shaun Grenfell (74) led the way, but the Colts players were delighted that they were able to restrict City to that total given Blake Weymouth (23), Lachie Coyte (34) and Brett Causer (35) had all made starts as well.

Matt Lawson (3-64 off 14 overs), Wayne Sellers (3-44 off nine), Matt Stephen (2-38 off 13) and Dave Henderson (2-22 off 12) all did well in a good all-round performance from Colts' attack.

While buoyed by a solid performance in the field, City Colts' mood soon changed as Orange City's bowlers swung the momentum.

Ed Morrish removed the dangerous Josh Toole for a duck before Colts had ticked off a single run in the chase and while Daniel Casey (25) and Henry Shoemark (nine) looked to have settled with a 31-run second-wicket stand, it was only a brief respite.

Colts lost six wickets in the space of 18 runs as Morrish (2-12 off seven), Harry McGregor (2-7 off five) and Jackson Coote (2-4 off six) helped to reduce their rivals to 7-54 after 25 overs.

RUGBY Union is within reach of its second win of the season after a solid opening day of play against Kinross at Kinross Main Oval, having seven wickets up its sleeve in pursuit of 62 more runs.

Rugby won the toss and sent Kinross in to bat, claiming the first scalp with the score on three.

From there the students struggled to form any meaningful partnerships with just three players reaching double figures - Tim May (32), Max Powell (16) and Dave Hunter (23) - as Kinross was all out for 132.

Jameel Qureshi (3-28 off 18) was the most successful of Rugby's bowlers, while Ryan Smiles (2-13 off eight) and Jonah Ruzgas (3-53 off 29) were also impressive.

While Qureshi (18) was one of the three Rugby players to fall before stumps - he was dismissed on the second last ball of the afternoon - Brad Glasson remains unbeaten on 42.

"NOT the position we would like to be in, but still have a chance next week."

They were the words from St Pat's skipper Adam Ryan after day one of his side's clash with Orange CYMS at SASC Scots Campus given the visitors are 78 runs away from victory with seven wickets still in hand.

CYMS opener Tom Belmonte (50 not out) has reached the half century mark for the fourth time this season and shapes as the key for his side when play resumes. On the flip side, Ben Parsons (2-11 off seven overs) looms as critical for the Saints' chances.

Earlier, it was Ben Cant (84) who was the shining light for the Saints after they won the toss and elected to bat. He cracked 10 boundaries and sent another shot over the rope after coming in at number six.

Opener Bailey Brien (23) and number three Ryan (21) both made starts for the Saints, but both fell to Angus Le Lievre (5-38 off eight overs) before they could go with the job.

Le Lievre was superb as he struck with his first delivery, again with the initial ball of his second over and found himself on a hat-trick in his fifth over. He also sent down 27 dot balls to help have the Saints all out for 175.

BATHURST City marked its return to action by producing its best batting display so far this season, putting on 267 in its clash with Centrals at Morse Park 1.

While skipper Joey Coughlan only managed two in his return from injury, there were a host of contributions throughout the order.

Englishman Harrison Craig produced his best knock since joining Redbacks, hitting 10 boundaries on his way to 64. Opener Cohen Schubert (49), number three Rory Daburger (42) and Oli Simpson (46) all came agonisingly close to half centuries as well on a tricky wicket.

It was a wicket that Centrals' bowler Zac Reimer enjoyed as he finished with 5-50 off his 20.5 overs. His last two scalps came in consecutive deliveries, meaning he will only get the chance to claim a hat-trick should Redbacks bat again.

Daryl Kennewell also had a good day with the ball for Centrals as he took 3-49 off 13 overs.
