It doesn't matter where you turn it seems there's someone doing something to aid those suffering as a result of the drought or the catastrophic bush fires.
It's amazing to see even small business operators donating their hard-earned cash to one or both of these causes.
There are several cafes in Orange giving a portion or all of the money they make from selling coffee, there are chemists collecting items for injured animals, clothing stores holding raffles, tennis centres collecting household items and dance schools offering classes in exchange for donations to the bushfire efforts.
All of these small acts of kindness not only raise much-needed money or help replace lost items, they also do a great deal to lift the morale of the people of Orange.
The unprecedented fires that have impacted a large part of Australia over the last few weeks have shocked and saddened many of us and there's no doubt the rolling news coverage of it has had an impact on us all.
As we brace ourselves for news of more fires, it's the kind actions of our community that reminds us how lucky we are to live in Orange.
