Cadia Operations acting general manager Aaron Brannigan said the company would give $200,000 to each of the NSW Rural Fire Service and the Victorian Country Fire Authority.

Newcrest employees are also involved in their own fundraising for selected aid organisation helping the fire-affected communities.

Mr Brannigan said Newcrest would match those employees' donations up to $200,000, bringing the company's total potential pledge to fire relief to $600,000.

"NSW and Victoria are the two most directly affected states in Australia, and are home, respectively, to our largest Australian operation at Cadia and our corporate headquarters in Melbourne," he said.

He said several Cadia workers were also helping fight the fires.

"A number of Cadia's workforce who have the specialist skills required are assisting with the firefighting efforts in a volunteer capacity either in their own time or whilst on roster, and everyone else is contributing where they can, whether that be through donations or providing support to those affected," he said.

"Cadia is a member of the Panuara rural fire brigade. We have not received a request to provide personnel or equipment through the RFS for the current crisis, however some employees have participated in the response efforts."

Meanwhile a lightning strike to a power line disrupted power to Cadia's offices this week.

A spokeswoman said the fault was repaired the same day and did not disrupt the mine operations.
