Bathurst's Tyers Park is slated to stage a seven-race meeting, but smoke haze and predicted high temperatures will be monitored.

Already Dubbo's meeting which was slated for Saturday was abandoned, while Goulburn's Friday meeting was postponed.

Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing's Michelle Tarpenning is hopeful her club's meeting will go ahead as planned, with the mercury expected to reach a top of 34 degrees.

"The temperature on Monday is meant to be coming down a bit which is good for racing - but the horse welfare is always a big concern," she said.

"We have ice buckets and we have watering down stations we can use, we actually get a lot more ice on board for the vets.

"Every race meeting in summer we have ice on hand to cool the horses down very quickly if they need it, that's a call the vets make. They are always monitoring."

In regards to the air quality, Tarpenning said the governing body will monitor readings on the day and make a decision accordingly.

"The smoke is a new one for us, we've never had to deal with that, so hopefully on the day we won't be too affected by that," she said.

"In my time, I've been here eight years, I've never seen smoke like this. The horse welfare is always the concern and priority for the stewards and the vets in New South Wales, we take their lead on that."

As for the track itself, the club has worked hard to prepare the surface following the staging of Monday's meeting - one which was transferred from Orange's Towac Park.

"The track is looking good, it's down for a Good 3. There's no doubt this heat on the weekend is going to test it, it's predicted we'll get some 40 temps and that does knock the grass around a bit," Tarpenning said.

"But we've patched since Monday and we've been hand-watering in those spots which were dry and are just continually irrigating - we are doing everything we can."

If racing does go ahead, Tarpenning is hoping to see the strong contingent of Bathurst runners impress.

Trainers Don and Andrew Ryan (Ave), Roy McCabe (Gaze Beyond, Any Loose Change, Arrow Haze) Dean Mirfin (Tale Of The Kraut, Skipper Joe, Mont Genep, Magic Gift, Press Week) and Paul Theobald (Red Marauder, Attilius) will all have members of their stable in action.

"The acceptances were great, we had 90 acceptors. I always like to see a strong contingent of Bathurst people and we've got Dean and Roy and Paul Theobald and our new lady Wanda Ings is down for the last as well with Catcha Crown. It's an emergency, but hopefully it will get up," she said.

"We do have a nice, strong contingent."
