It is one of several hotspot areas identified for a range of crimes across Orange in a new report.

The Community Housing Industry Association of NSW draft report, which has just been released, found the CBD, Glenroi and Bowen areas, and an area north of Summer Street towards Bletchington, were the most common spots for a range of crimes to occur.

The report into social housing shortages also looked at crime across Orange based on NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research figures.

"The Orange CBD is a hotspot for a range of offences including assault (non-domestic), assault (domestic), theft (break and enter non-dwelling), theft (motor vehicle), theft (steal from motor vehicle), theft (steal from person) and malicious damage to property," it said.

It found the Glenroi and Bowen areas were hotspots for domestic and non-domestic assaults, break and enters, car theft, stealing from dwellings and malicious damage to property.

Another hotspot was north of the CBD, towards Bletchington, for crimes including domestic assault, break and enters, car theft, stealing from motor vehicles, stealing from dwellings and malicious damage to property.

It found common areas for breaking and entering into non-dwellings (shops, businesses) were the CBD, the southern end of Peisley Street, around the Glenroi and Alpine shopping centres, along Bathurst Road and near Orange High School.

The report identified Orange as a "relatively average crime environment" across a range of violent, personal and property crimes compared to the rest of NSW.

However it said Orange had "slightly higher than NSW average" rates for several offences, particularly breaking and entering into dwellings but lower than average for stealing from a person.

It said while there had been a drop in the number of break and enters over three years from January 2016 to December 2018, it was still twice the state average.
