Kathleen Teresa Smith, 51, of Adina Crescent, sampled moisturiser, hair putty, deodorant and body lotion at Coles on December 16.
She told police "I tried them to see what they were like, that's all I done."
However, she was fined $800 for stealing $41.60 worth of items from the supermarket because the products could not be sold after they were opened.
Smith was also fined in court for possession of cannabis.
Police found one gram of the drug in her bag after receiving a call about a woman on a pushbike acting suspiciously behind the Hotel Canobolas about 3.30pm on March 9. She was fined $50 for the drug possession.
