The loved-up couple returned from their wedding reception at the Beekeepers Inn at about 11pm and stopped in at the Lords Place pub to share a dance.

After cutting a rug with a few dedicated members of the wedding party the couple ventured outside to make their way back to the De Russie Boutique Hotel for the night.

Much to their dismay, they found themselves joining the late-night queue at the taxi rank behind about a dozen people.

Mrs Creese said it was "very much" a surprise when the police approached them to offer a lift.

"They said 'you can't wait out here on your wedding day'," she said.

"We were so floored at how kind they were. It was just beautiful."

Mrs Creese said after a ceremony at St. Joseph's Church, the reception out at Vittoria and a dance at the pub, the offer couldn't have been more readily accepted.

"Our feet were more sore than anything," she said.

The Pybar Mining Services and Cabonne Council Family Day Care worker started their married life this week with a fortnight in Port Douglas.
