Samuel Jozef Coyte, 25, of Stage Coach Road, Emu Swamp, represented himself in court for the November 1 offence.
Coyte said he didn't feel affected and was shocked when he failed the breath test.
However, magistrate David Day said "it means you probaby drank too much."
"Every one is affected at 0.1, even hardened drinkers, they just don't feel it," Mr Day said.
He fined Coyte $880, disqualified his driver's licence for five months and placed him on a 12-month interlock order.
At the time of his arrest he told police he drank between eight and 10 schooners of mid-strength beer between 4pm and 8.45pm.
Coyte's driver's licence was suspended at the time of his arrest.
