The salon was previously located at 167 Summer Street, between Anson and Sale streets, before recently moving into the former Worldly Treasures shopfront at 289 Summer Street.

Partner Daniel Swart, known to most as Cobus, said hefty rents prompted the move, but he also enjoyed the fitout.

"The rent was killing us up there and we wanted something fresh that we could make our own," he said.

"We used our creativity and set up a lounge and coffee machine at the back because some people don't want to sit at the front."

THE state Opposition has been gauging drought impacts on the ground, with Labor's Daniel Mookhey paying a visit last week.

The Opposition spokesman for Finance and Small Business met with Orange Business Chamber.

Mr Mookhey said the Orange economy was performing well, but businesses asked for help so they could expand.

"The drought is affecting some confidence in retail in Orange," he said.

He said Labor was lobbying the government to extend drought relief to businesses outside agriculture.

"The drought has been so prolonged and severe that it's well past time for investing," he said.

WHITTAKER Contracting did its part for men's health on Friday, raising $5334 and smashing its $2000 goal.

The company competed for the title of the best moustache, with Jusuf Cufurovic voted the best on social media and he received a $50 gift card for his efforts.

Meanwhile, David Watson was given a $100 gift card for raising the most money, hauling in $840.

Chris Whittaker will donate a further $2000 to match the company's original goal.

NEWCASTLE Permanent has thrown its weight behind the Salvation Army's Christmas appeal, with people able to bring donations to its Orange branch until December 20.

The appeal helps individuals and families who might otherwise not receive any gifts at Christmas and Orange branch manager Shaun McNiven said it was remarkable how many people donated gifts on top of their own family giving.

"We ask that people consider all ages when choosing donations," he said.

"It can be lots of fun choosing toys for little kids, but we often forget that teenagers are still big kids and parents doing it tough are keen to give [them] a memorable Christmas as well."
