THE mystery of the mayoral parking space was unravelled at the Orange City Council meeting, with staff confirming they had put the idea to the council.
Two weeks ago, the council approved a space for the mayor, but deputy mayor Sam Romano caused reader uproar when he suggested spaces could be left for some, or all 12, councillors.
Councillor Glenn Taylor asked where the idea originated and was told staff discussed the deletion of the old mayoral space when the bike rack was put in place and suggested a replacement near the electric car recharge point.
Mayor Reg Kidd denied he had asked for it or wanted it.
Councillors were told the former CF Williams building site was being considered for car parking.
Several questions were fielded on water restrictions - Cr Taylor asked for advertising material to spell out level five water restrictions rather than refer residents to the council website, while councillor Scott Munro asked for more monitoring on residents in urban areas with a bore.
Councillors were informed rangers were already liaising with businesses.
