Ms Blackwood will meet readers and discuss The Tiny Star, at Anything Grows at 4pm on Saturday.
"It's the first time we've worked together," Ms Blackwood said of the collaboration.
"It was a lovely job to work on, it's a lovely book of hers, it definitely felt like my sort of book as well.
"When I was growing up Possum Magic came out so it's been really exciting."
Ms Blackwell said she also read another popular Mem Fox book, The Green Sheep, to her daughter when her daughter was younger.
Ms Blackwell said the Little Star was a life cycle story using the metaphor of a little star and once the story was written it took about seven to eight months to illustrate.
"It's not a sad story at all so I had to make sure my drawing weren't terribly sad, there's lots of colour and children," she said.
"There's a lot that happens in the book."
Ms Blackwell said the book has received excellent reviews and although it was only released in October it has already had a reprint.
