Newcrest's Cadia Valley Operations announced on Tuesday it would partner with Orange360 to manage a centralised accommodation booking system to find housing for mine workers arriving in Orange from next month.
Public forums will be held in Orange, Blayney, Cabonne, Bathurst and Cowra council areas in early December to explain to prospective accommodation providers how it would work.
Newcrest announced in October it had approved a $685 million expansion, with a $185 million second stage to follow, which would create hundreds of jobs and boost demand for accommodation and retail in the region.
A Cadia spokeswoman said they would not be setting up in-house accommodation for the workers, but instead would work with Orange360 to maximise the benefits for local business and landlords.
She said the extra workers would arrive from December with the peak demand to occur over the next two years.
Cadia general manager Peter Sharpe said they wanted "an open and transparent booking process" for providing accommodation.
"We want to ensure our expansion project provides opportunities for all industry in the region, not to burden them," he said.
"While we will not see the numbers of temporary workers that we saw during the initial Cadia East construction project during 2010-2014 we are conscious of the potential impacts of increased accommodation requirements in the region."
Orange360 general manager Caddie Marshall said the forums were open to everyone from major providers to people with Airbnb, farmstay or a room to rent for short or long-term accommodation.
Ms Marshall said providers would need to have compliant facilities and appropriate insurances.
She said the booking project should complement the tourism industry.
