Bathurst Taxis will on Friday night launch Bathurst Taxi Tucker in conjunction with nine local eateries.
The service is similar to Uber Eats that operates in larger centres and will be the first taxi-run service of its kind in NSW.
He said the taxi company had only approached "100 per cent locally owned" businesses to be part of Bathurst Taxi Tucker to ensure every cent stayed in the city.
"We have deliberately limited it to a small number of businesses at this stage because we have to crawl before we walk, and also because we still have our local customers we have to serve and their needs are just as important as the new service," Mr Shanahan said.
Bathurst Taxi Tucker launches at 5pm tonight.
People wanting to use the service can simply order their meal, as usual, through any of the participating businesses who will then contact the taxi for delivery once the food is prepared.
The cost of the service will be the same as a regular taxi fare, regardless of the amount of food ordered.
Bathurst Taxis are not able to deliver alcohol.
