The connection work is part of an agreement reached by Orange City Council and Cabonne Council to send water from Orange's reserves to help Molong through the drought as an emergency measure should it be needed.
Water from the Orange reticulation network would only be accessed if the water storage in Molong Creek Dam falls to a critical level.
As part of the connection work, Council is required to shut off the main valves at the dam site to facilitate.
