The James Sheahan Catholic High School graduate spent two weeks touring the country as part of an organised schoolies adventure for students wanting to contribute something worthwhile after finishing school.

After two weeks of touring, trekking and volunteering in schools, Miss Ticehurst decided to become a teacher.

She said she didn't expect the trip to change her, but the time away from her parents and her home had an impact.

"It helps you grow up at a time that's appropriate," she said.

Miss Ticehurst, along with some of her travel companions, will attend an information session on the 2020 trip for prospective attendees on Tuesday.

The teenagers will share their experiences and organisers will provide details on the itinerary, costs and other essentials.

As part of the trip, the group of around 20 students take part in fundraising activities to purchase resources to deliver to communities in Nepal.

The group volunteered at a school in Chitwan, helping with building projects and student learning, spent time working with elephants in a national park, visited Katmandu and went paragliding in Pokhara.

Miss Ticehurst said for her the Himalayan Schoolies adventure was a more valuable way to spend her time than heading off on the usual drunken escapades.

"I'd never been overseas before. I thought this was something I could do to help people," she said.

"The way the kids responded to us was amazing. One of the days we were at the school was a pupil-free day, yet 75 per cent of them still turned up.

"They wanted to be there because we were."

The trip is open to any student finishing year 12 in 2020. The information event for parents and students 12 will be held at the Parkview Hotel on Tuesday.
