The Forrest Road site has become an unofficial car park for people attending sports games at Sir Jack Brabham Park.
Unfortunately, sporting families vehicles are increasingly becoming a problem, affecting access to the site as well as building repairs costing the support service financially.
They park along the walls of the building, along the gates, wherever they can
- Kevin McGuire
Wangarang Industries CEO Kevin McGuire said previously employees had little need to be driving service vehicles in and out on the weekends, but the introduction of NDIS has changed that.
"The services and supports that we are now providing extend to seven days per week, requiring access to the site at all times," he said.
Mr McGuire said when any event is held at Jack Bradham its not just the car spaces which are occupied, it's the entire grounds.
"They park along the walls of the building, along the gates, wherever they can," he said.
Mr McGuire said during the recent Gnoo Blas car show parking officials directed cars onto the site without permission.
"We've allowed it to go on but it's been highlighted we're exposing ourselves to far too greater risk to allow that to happen," he said.
Wangarang Industries has received advice from their insurers they will be held liable if something were to happen to a member of the public on the grounds. A situation which came close to fruition recently.
Mr McGuire said a car collided with an electricity box creating a "lethal situation" with exposure of the electrical supply.
"It quite seriously could've killed someone," he said.
Mr McGuire said garden bed surrounds have also been damaged by bad drivers, with the disability-support service footing the bill.
"This decisions hasn't been made lightly. The last thing we want to do is traumatise a kid whose late for their sport," he said.
"I'm a grandfather and a father, I know what it's like when you're running late. We want to give people plenty of notice and time to get used to it."
Wangarang Industries will begin shutting its newly erected gates in the coming weeks.
