Essential Energy confirmed power was switched off just after 1.30pm after the network sensed a fault.

A spokesman said crews responded immediately and found the fallen branch, belonging to a poplar tree.

The affected area lay west of Hill Street, extending south to a small part of Kite Street and north past Dalton Street.

It extended along Forbes Road and Sieben Drive, including parts of Yarawini Drive, Larela Circuit and Ibis Crescent.

Spokesman David Crough said as there was a total fire ban in place, there were additional safety requirements.

"With all planned power outages across Essential Energy cancelled today due to the State Wide Emergency alert, multiple Essential Energy crews were available to undertake a full visual patrol of the powerline while the tree branch was removed," he said.

"The electricity network was not damaged from the tree branch, and with no further issues with the electricity network identified during the full patrol, power was restored to all customers at 2.28pm.

Mr Crough thanked customers for their understanding as crews worked.

Duntryleague and Orange High School were also affected, although high school principal Chad Bliss confirmed classes continued as normal.

Several unplanned outages are in effect across the state, mostly in bushfire-ravaged areas.

Several areas to the south are also affected, near Oberon and Boorowa.
