Lions Clubs throughout Australia are gathering on this day for Lap the Map.

The aim of the day is to raise awareness of diabetes and to raise funds for research into the disease which is prevalent all over the world.

The focal event of the day is to have participants walk 25,760kms (which is the distance around mainland Australia, Tasmania and some of the other larger Australian islands), in leisurely walks in thousands of communities across the nation.

The Lions Clubs of Manildra, Eugowra, Canowindra and Cudal-Cargo are all small clubs without the members to be able to stage such an event so the four clubs are joining together to stage one event at the Cudal showground on November 17.

The day, to get underway about 10am, will feature novelty sporting events for children, a variety of market stalls, Justin Landers to entertain, a diabetes information stand, the Cudal-Cargo catering van to keep people fed, raffles and, of course, a walk around the 800 metre trotting track to contribute kilometres to the national total.

Admission to the grounds will be $2 per adult with children free.

Registration for the walk will be $5 per person with all participants receiving a certificate of participation.

All funds raised on the day will go to the Lions Diabetes Research Foundation.

Dave Farrell of the Cudal-Cargo Lions Club said: "We hope that everyone in our club's areas will give thought to supporting this initiative and that everyone reading this in an area served by another Lions Club will check out what your local club has organised".

"Help us to raise the money to fund research to overcome this disease," Mr Farrell said.

Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, amputation, heart disease, kidney failure and early death.
