Purchased for $200,000 at the Gold Coast yearling sales, Deviate's first two starts for Thompson came at Randwick last year, with a Group 3 debut followed by a $125,000 feature sprint.
Earlier this year the filly ran third in the famed $150,000 Wellington Boot and Friday's meeting at Orange will see her have a fourth start as a three-year-old.
She'll contest the last event of the day, the Kennard's Hire Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000 metres), having run second last time out in a class two event at Scone.
Promising apprentice Kate Cowan, fresh from riding winners at Dubbo's Derby Day and Melbourne Cup meetings, has the ride for Thompson.
Deviate appears her best chance but she will have to topple the Bjorn Baker-Greg Ryan combination if she is to claim victory. The Warwick Farm trainer returns west to team up with Ryan on Friday, with Corcra to contest the final event of the day.
Corcra is a three-year-old gelding which has the one win and two placings from four career starts.
Cowan has another ride for Thompson earlier in the meeting, piloting Moon Over Meenah in the Oriana Orange Class 1 Handicap (1280m).
Her other ride is on the Connie Greig-trained Gravitate in the Inland Digital Class 3 Handicap (1400m).
Friday marks the six-year-old gelding's fourth start for the Dubbo trainer, having previously worked under the Warwick Farm-based Jason Coyle.
Gravitate has a record of three wins in 30 starts and he's yet to run better than seventh in three starts for Greig.
Alison Smith is the lone hope of the Towac Park-based trainers, she has two chances in Friday's meeting in Krissy Krystyna and debutant Cotton On George.
The former resumes after a lengthy spell, her last run was at the Orange track back in April, the four-year-old mare ran sixth over 1000 after scoring a third finish on debut over the same distance the month before.
She'll make the same trip in Friday's meeting, in the sixth of the afternoon, the McSigns F&M Maiden Plate, and will battle chances from both Baker's stable and former Orange trainer Gary Portelli's team.
Gates open at Towac Park for Racing Orange's Poets Race Day at 11.30am before the first of the afternoon jumps at 1.35pm.
Gate entry is $10 and free for kids.
