Paul McDermott from the Doug Anthony All Stars and Steven Gates from Tripod will make the trip to Orange this month, to treat audiences to a single performance of their combined comedy concert.

Friends for more than 18 years, the duo have been honing their skills while singing together in private for five years.

After keeping their act behind closed doors for too long, McDermott and Gates have decided to share the show with the public.

Gates said Paul McDermott and Gatesy Go Solo includes "beautiful moments that out of nowhere turn into funny ones."

"We love singing beautiful lyrics and creating a moment that takes people's breath away and then undermining that moment with a joke, or vice versa," Gates said.

He said in addition to beautiful music, audiences could expect some improvised bickering between the pair.

"I think what we've come up with is a suite of pretty beautiful songs and in between those songs I just try to take Paul down a few notches," Gates said.

"He's so aggressive, but that's his armour, he's the most sensitive person in the room.

"Paul is like one of those dolls where you pull its string, and it just keeps going."

Gates said the duo is looking forward to playing in the Central West.

With much of the state in drought, Gates said he recognised people were doing it tough.

"But there is always time for a laugh," he said.

"Take a break if you can and come and watch something cool and enjoy being yelled at by an old man."

Paul McDermott and Gatesy Go Solo will kick off at 8pm on Friday November 15.
