Mayfields grew exponentially during the following decades, bottling for Schweppes and Orchy before becoming Mid-West Bottling in 1976.
Finally, the business was taken over by Coca-Cola Amatil in 1981.
Ray's great-grandson, Peter Golland, has revived the Mayfields brand, bringing back recipes not seen for almost 40 years.
"We've tailored the drinks so they have no preservatives or artificial colours or flavours to bring them up to today's health-conscious standards," he said.
Mr Golland opened a lemonade stand at the East Orange Markets and the Australian National Field Days, hoping to again supply to Orange stores and cafes.
Having a yarn
WITH knitting and crocheting back in vogue, one keen toymaker has decided to take her business to the next level.
Carly Brunt has started Bibbly J Boutique inside Centrepoint Arcade, stocking kitting and crocheting supplies and handmade toys and gifts.
"I was already making crochet toys for daycare centres and I noticed there was nowhere in town, other than Spotlight," she said.
With workshops planned, she hoped the store would also function as a hub for crafty knitters and crocheters to bring their projects in and work with others.
"There's lounges set up and there's tea and coffee available for a gold coin," she said.
"It's just relaxing and there's the reward of having something at the end of it."
Motorbike hub
WANTING to combine his love of motorbikes with something social, Matt Williams decided to open a workshop.
Mr Brownstone's Workshop in Peisley Street offers four service bays complete with tools and lifts so those wanting to work on their bikes but without the space at home can hire a space to complete their project on a monthly or hourly basis.
"People say they would really like [to work on their bikes] but they're nervous about if they get stuck, what happens," he said.
"I'm a mechanic as well so I offer help and guidance."
