While many people would squirm at the thought of shaving their hair, Bernadette Daniels had no qualms cutting it off alongside her sister Linda Buhajiar to raise money for health services around the Central West.

The sisters, alongside their mother Mary Gee, have raised over $3000 for each the Western Care Lodge in Orange and the oncology ward in Cowra for Mrs Daniels' grandmother - Mrs Gee's mother - Betty Ward.

Mrs Ward was diagnosed with breast cancer this year at age 91, and Mrs Gee said her mother turned to her shortly after the diagnosis and said "we need to do some fundraising".

Mrs Gee's daughters shaved their hair and the family and friends and the community of Koorawatha rallied around Mrs Ward, with auctions organised by Mrs Buhajiar bringing items from Western Plains Zoo and Sydney football clubs to the fundraisers.

The end result is nearly $7000 of donations, split 50-50 at $3330 between both of the services in Orange and Cowra.

"Two people who've been here personally and we know people who come here and use it," Mrs Gee said.

"We were on the verge of using it but it was full and turned around and said if we can help then we would, so here we are."

Cancer Care Western NSW fundraising manager Jan Savage said the money would go towards ongoing maintenance of linen, blankets and pillows.

She also said funding like this meant a huge amount to the Western Care Lodge, especially with so many people who stay at the centre coming from the region around Cowra and Grenfell.

"When a group comes like this to tell us how they're raised the money that's an emotional thing and that's really special and they put a lot of work into it and that means a lot to us," she said.
