Senator McKenzie was elected as deputy leader in 2017 and took over the agriculture portfolio from David Littleproud in May this year. Mr Littleproud still oversees water and drought policy.
Despite the rumblings, Senator McKenzie has support in the party, especially from Mr Gee, who says he's supporting the Deputy leader "to the hilt".
"And I can't see there being a challenge to her," he said.
"Within the Nationals' party room, there just isn't an appetite to spill the Deputy Leader's position and there is no real momentum for a challenge.
"The public have made it very clear that they hate these types of political shenanigans."
