Dubbo-based Red City CrossFit has lodged a development application with Orange City Council to establish an operation similar to its existing set-up in Dubbo in factory unit space.
Dubbo gym owner Tavis Learg said they had been operating for four years in Dubbo and wanted to expand into Orange.
"We've got family there. And it's nice and close to us here in Dubbo," he said.
Mr Learg said they hoped to be open in December.
"It should only take us a matter of 6-8 weeks [after] approval," he said.
Mr Learg said the gym offered personal training for people.
"Everything that exists here in Dubbo will be the same in Orange," he said.
Mr Learg said the gym would employ "only a few [staff] in the beginning."
The DA is currently on public exhibition at the council until Friday November 1.
"The proposal will involve mostly internal works to accommodate the proposed use," it said.
"This will include the installation of two offices on ground floor, a shower and toilet on ground floor and shower and toilet on the mezzanine."
A total of 22 off-street parking spaces are provided along the Dalton Street frontage of the site. Vehicle access is provided from William Street."
It said a maximum two to three staff would be on site at any one time to run the business.
The DA said it would be open from 6am and have a series of classes with up to 10 people throughout the day.
It said the business would not create extra traffic or noise problems for the area or have any impact on the closest residences.
