A Transport for NSW spokeswoman has confirmed the afternoon Bathurst Bullet service was stopped twice on its Central to Bathurst route for urgent repairs.

The first stop was at Emu Plains while the second was at Faulconbridge - both times were for an "auxiliary fault".

"There was no danger [to passengers], it's just a mechanical issue," the spokeswoman said.

"It's not unheard of that we have mechanical issues with trains of this age."

The Bathurst Bullet train was sent from Faulconbridge to Springwood where passengers were transferred onto another train.

"At Lithgow they will transfer onto a bus and arrive into Bathurst at roughly 8pm," the spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said this model of train was among the types that will be replaced from 2023 onward.

URGENT mechanical repairs have lead to an extended delay for passengers on the afternoon service of the Bathurst Bullet.

The train is currently at Faulconbridge while repairs are being conducted.

"Allow extra travel time due to urgent mechanical repairs to a train at Faulconbridge," an alert on the Transport for NSW website states.

"Listen to announcements and check indicator boards."

Buses will replace the 3.05pm Central to Bathurst train from Lithgow to Bathurst, and the 7.25pm Bathurst to Lithgow train.

Australian Community Media (ACM) understands the same train was delayed earlier in its trip, with other repairs conducted at Emu Plains in western Sydney.

ACM also understands that the delayed train was the newly installed second Bathurst Bullet between Sydney and Bathurst which only begun operating on September 16.

This train leaves Central Station at 3.05pm and was due to arrive in Bathurst at 6.47pm.
