The drivers were detected a day after police issued 212 speeding tickets on Thursday, which was day one of the 2019 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Among the drivers who were detected travelling above the speed limit on Friday was one driver who is facing legal action after being detected travelling at 46km/h above the sign posted speed limit.

The other 83 drivers are also facing a range of legal action from fines to immediate licence suspensions and court attendance notices.

Operation Bathurst 1000 is a high-visibility operation involving officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, who are targeting speeding, people driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and people not wearing seatbelts or motorcycle helmets.

On Friday, officers conducted 4398 random breath tests, bringing the current tally to 8607.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Regional Superintendent Paul Glinn said police would continue high profile random breath testing operations across the weekend.

"We are also maintaining a high profile when it comes to those who make the choice to drive under the influence of illicit substances. Drugs and alcohol in your system mean your ability to control a vehicle properly is reduced," he said.

"People should also remember that alcohol leaves the body slowly and it is quite possible that you might still be over the limit the next day.

"Make sure you have a Plan B, which could include making sure someone else in your group is prepared to drive."

He said police would also have an increased presence in and around the Bathurst region, including Orange during and immediately after the event.

"Inclement weather is predicted for the weekend so drive according to road conditions," Superintendent Glinn said.
